Question by one_lil_monkey: How long is it normal to have decreased libido after childbirth?
Before I had my baby over a year ago, I had a very high libido. Ever since I had the baby, I have not wanted sex at all, and even have aversions to it on many occasions. It seems I either want it all the time or NEVER (usually never. I usually feel sorry for my husband a couple times per week and do it, but I don’t really want to). I could go for a month without it and then every night for a week straight. Is it normal to fluctuate so wildly? I am not on any medications, including chemical birth control. I am not working, baby sleeps wonderfully, and our relationship is good.

the same thing happened to me and mine will be 6 in october and it is the same i think we wanted our children so we enjoyed it because it was a chance to become a mommy now that we get our way we see sex is over rated lol

Question by Yvonne: Decreased libido…?
For the past couple years I have noticed my libido decreasing severely. (My other half is home from Japan (Marines) for 2 weeks, haven’t seen him in 3 months, and don’t even want to have sex!) We have a 4 year old son together and everything was fine back then, obviously, lol. I have been getting bloodwork done, esp. testing my prolactin, testosterone, and androgen levels ordered by my gyno, due to a hormone deficiency problem of some sort, not sure exactly what yet. Intercourse can also be very painful for me, a symptom of endometriosis which may be one of my problems. I found a website that said decreased libido is a symptom of something, but cannot find the site again. Does anyone know what disease/syndrome can decrease your libido? I’m sure there are alot of them, and I have it on the tip of my tongue, but cannot remember it. Anyone who can help, please feel free. (I am only 20 years old!)
I had our son when I was 15, and this has been happening since before I was on birth control. I know depression effects your libido, and birth control as well. This has been a problem while I was on and off of pills.

It can be a sign of depression as well as several other ailments. It’s good you’re getting your bloodwork done to be safe.

Question by helpful: Are there any natural or herbal remedies for decreased libido in men that are safe to use?
My husband is 38 years old. He takes Lexapro and Lamictal for a mood disorder and depression. He has decreased libido and low serum testosterone levels. He has taken Androgel in the past but is interested in other treatment options. Are there any herbal supplements or natual remedies that are safe to use? Does anyone out there have any first-hand experience with any of them?

Many medications, including those for blood pressure and/or depression can interrupt blood flow to the penis & cause malfunction at the junction. He needs to eat a healthy diet. Eat Asparagus regularly – it helps increase libido. Taking Zinc tablets daily helps to put zip in the zipper, also.

Have your hubby consult with his doctor to see if there are any alternative medications for his condition that will still do the job it needs to do without the side effects.

From the Lexapro website: “Lexapro is well tolerated by most people. The most commonly reported side effects of Lexapro are nausea, insomnia, problems with ejaculation, somnolence, increased sweating, fatigue, decreased libido, and anorgasmia. Most of the side effects experienced by patients taking Lexapro are mild to moderate and go away with continued treatment, and usually do not cause patients to stop taking Lexapro.”

Did you experience a decreased libido? If so, how much did it drop and did it come back as you continued on the drug. I know this is pretty hard to measure. My wife says it has killed hers and we have basically stopped. Seems kind of extreme but possible I guess.

LOTS of psychiatric meds nowadays either kill the libido, or make it hard to achieve orgasm. There are a few cures for it:
don’t take the pill until after making love + there are meds to counter the given med, just one night at a time.

Ask her psychiatrist about it.

Over the past few months, I’ve noticed that my sex drive has decreased, and im only 17 years old. I can still get erections and everything, its just that i don’t really have “desires” anymore, i haven’t really been under any stress and my diet and sleep habits really haven’t changed at all so i don’t know what to do?
